Dr. King’s Dream Lives On. Here’s How We Are Helping.

Today, we honor Martin Luther King Jr. and his dream. We are proud to support two foundations that carry forward that dream in the Waterside School and A Second U. In recognition of the impact they are making, we are donating $10,000 to their continued efforts.

"Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. This is the interrelated structure of reality."

Martin Luther King Jr.

A Second U

A Second U Foundation is our nation’s first fitness nonprofit that nationally certifies and provides job placement for formerly incarcerated people as personal trainers in corporate health clubs through New York City. After 10 years in federal prison, founder Hector Guadalupe worked hard to build a successful personal training career of his own, even though no one wanted to hire him because of his background. No one wanted to give him a second chance. He wanted others coming home to have access to the skills that helped him build his business, our community to be their network, and offer a second chance that mattered. That was the inception of A Second U Foundation.

The Waterside School

The Waterside School, drawing principally from Stamford's most economically challenged communities, seeks to provide its children a rigorous classroom experience blending the important lessons of the classroom with the requisite lessons of character and the lasting lessons of the heart. The Waterside School now spans grades PK-5 and serves over one hundred fifty students with one hundred thirty families from thirty-one different countries.
