My quest for the perfect shorts started when I was packing to go on a theme park trip. I wanted a pair of shorts that I could easily take between the dry park and the water park. I had a swimsuit that could double as regular shorts, but it lacked sufficient pockets to secure my stuff while riding rides.
So I started researching online and stumbled across Chubbies active shorts, BearBottoms hybrid shorts, and BirdDogs. The first two didn't fit me right (I'm 6'4/240lbs with disproportionately long legs and pretty thick thighs) no matter how much I sized up. The BirdDogs, however, were great! They were comfy and quick drying and had a ton of well placed pockets. But... they didn't have a no-liner option (I didn't want to have to wash a pair of shorts EVERY time I wore them), and their marketing was pretty ******.
Back to research I went, this time knowing exactly what I want: length, pockets, stretchy quick-drying fabric, and no liner. I ordered 5 more pairs of shorts: Myles Momentum 2.0, Vuori Banks, Free Fly Utility, Mack Weldon 4 Way Active, and the Rhone Mako. I knew before they even arrived that Rhone would win, but I didn't realize just how much I'd love them.
The Myles Momentum and the Vuori Banks both fit great, but lacked pockets. The Mako has a roomy side zip for my keys and headphones, a roomy back zip for my wallet, and the inner phone pocket to secure my phone, as well as the traditional side hand pockets. The Free Fly Utility and the Mack Weldon 4 Way were both too small on the thighs and not comfortable enough. The Mako is so lightweight and comfortable to move and lounge around in that I've been wearing them for the past 3 days straight (with no liner and being able to wear my own underwear, this isn't gross!).
They're just the perfect all around short. They won't replace regular khaki shorts for nicer dinners, but they're perfect for anything from running, swimming, theme and water parks, park days, beach days, traveling -- literally anytime you want to be comfortable during the summer. Thank you Rhone!
Now I just want more colors...
