I love Rhône apparel and own many shorts, shirts and pants. I own two pair of the original Guru shorts (7” unlined), love them, and decided to try this lined version assuming they’d fit and look the same. They do not fit and look the same. For reference, I’m 6’2”, 180 lbs, slim athletic build and ordered the medium...same size I wear in several other Rhône short.
Regarding the fit, the waste is noticeably looser with no tension applied with the drawstring, and when measured against my other Guru shorts these new ones are 1/2” bigger. Not a huge change but makes a big difference in feel. If I wear these without tightening the drawstring they slide down. If I’ve got my phone in my pockets, they nearly slide off. Tightening the drawstring is of course and option, but I have to pull these so tight it’s uncomfortable, like I’m in the completely wrong size. The overall lengths is 1 1/2” longer, more than the expected 1/2” inch (not a big deal). The width of each leg over the thigh is 1” when laying flat, meaning a total of an additional 2” of circumference per leg. The effect is that these look super baggy to me, not at all like my other Gurus. Lastly, the liner is awful. These are my first lined shorts from Rhône. I have lined shorts from two other popular boutiques apparel companies and have no issues, but thought I’d try a Rhône option this time. The advertised compression is true for about 3-5” of the very bottom part on the leg. There is no support in the crotch when worn at the hip level. It is 11” from the top of the waste band to the crotch of the liner, so getting support while wearing these requires wearing them at my belly button...not the look I’m going for. It’s more comfortable to go commando in unlined shorts than to wear these. I may end up cutting out the liner, but they’ll still look stupidly baggy.
I’m giving 2 stars for material quality. As usual, Rhône uses great stuff. Sadly, the design of these is just poor, and they’ve ruined a go to short for me if this larger, baggier cut is the way forward for this line.
